Nature walks in the grave garden – “Early Signs of Spring”- join master naturalists on Saturday mornings in March and April for informal Walking tours that highlight the diverse flora and fauna of the cemetery.

Facing the Past, Freeing the Future:  Slavery’s Legacy, Freedom’s Promise – A symposium presented by Randolph College and Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest.  As archaeological research creates a growing body of information about enslaved men, women and children at Poplar Forest and other Virginia plantations, we will have the opportunity to explore & share that story.

Garden Club of Virginia Historic Garden Week
  April 26 – May 3
Each spring visitors are welcomed to more than 250 of Virginia’s most beautiful gardens, homes and historic landmarks.  This 8-day statewide event provides visitors a unique opportunity to see unforgettable gardens at the peak of Virginia’s springtime color, as well as private houses sparkling with over 2000 fabulous flower arrangements created by Garden Club of Virginia members. 

Lynchburg Garden Tour

The Lynchburg Garden Tour highlights 6 private homes whose homeowners are landscape architects and artists.  Of special interest is Harlem Renaissance poet Anne Spencer’s house museum and garden, which is also included on the tour.  The garden has been awarded the Common Wealth Award by the Garden Club of Virginia two times.  Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 on the day of the tour.

Festival is a eight day flat boat journey from Lynchburg to near Richmond, in the tradition of the batteau, which once carried goods and passengers in Early America. The Batteau launch is at 11:00 AM at Percival's Island, downtown Lynchburg. There will be vendors, historic demonstrations, educational opportunities, music, and kids activities.
